Solid performance by Jim James on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I rarely hear a TV performance sounding so crisp. I never once doubted he wouldn’t be great live—I’ve seen him belt out tunes at a Monsters of Folk show—but this was better than expected.

His debut solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, is also a great listen. Go get it!

Couldn’t agree more with that review.

It’s fun to imagine how many people spent this past weekend cooped up in their rooms spending alone time with their old loves. And how many people came into work this Monday feeling like they are 21 years younger, capable of having butterflies in your stomach (and maybe shedding a tear over something unexpectedly beautiful) once more.

I think the key to enjoying this album as a long time fan is to approach it with unconditional love. Based on the negative reviews and comments I’ve read, it seems like the only problem they had with the album was that it didn’t meet their expectations. That’s exactly where their problem lies. Why should Kevin Shields care what your expectations are? He took 21 sweet years to release a follow up album to Loveless, do you really think he gives a shit.

This is an album you will want to get personal and intimate with. I couldn’t stand listening to it in the presence of other people, as if them being there is destroying a special experience that I was supposed to be having with the music. I haven’t seen this good friend for 20 years (less than that for me because I was only 3 in 1991, but for the sake of continuing the above metaphor…), why would I want to compromise the lost time and chemistry that I share with it with other people? Maybe later, but not now; there’s a lot of catching up to do, and I’m going to relish the next week or month or however long it takes to reconnect with something that I thought would never return to my life.

I once said, after seeing My Bloody Valentine live in NYC, that “for the younger generation like me, last night’s [reunion] show was not nostalgia, it was now.” I’m glad the same goes for the band.

I spent a long time thinking about this. I came to the conclusion that right now I’d just want to have dinner with my three grandparents who passed away at different times in my life. One of them I have never even met.

Perhaps I would give a different answer if you asked me this in another time, but right now, I don’t want to have a serious discussion about religion or life philosophy with some prominent dead figures, though I probably will later on.

With this, we will never have to walk the earth again.

My thoughts exactly, and I’m also helping out the team with getting their name out to the world. Please check it out, I think with this with this platform people will be able to make the changes they want to see (instead of laying that burden on a distant group or figure).

Really proud of my buddy for starting this. I first met him when he moved to Singapore a couple years ago and watched him blaze a trail in the corporate world as an incredibly capable leader, but his passion had always been to make a meaningful difference in the world. The incredible response to his first post on Reddit gave him the reason he needed to finally pursue this passion and The Spark is the result. It’s a non-profit organization that “is the counterbalance to corporations and governments that defy the public interest.”

I fully support it and can’t wait to see how this grows.
